ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 1, 2003--UPS Supply Chain Solutions has been rated as the No. 1 logistics provider in Inbound Logistics' annual "Top 10 3PL Excellence Award" survey.
Award rankings were based on excellence in 28 service categories, including integrated logistics, process re-engineering, consulting and import, export and customs capabilities, among others. More than 3,000 respondents from about 360 third-party logistics companies worldwide participated in the survey.
Respondents gave UPS Supply Chain Solutions high marks for services related to speed, visibility and reliability, according to Inbound Logistics publisher Keith Biondo. The survey, now six years old, has ranked UPS Supply Chain Solutions in the Top 10 every year but this is the company's first time in the top slot.
"This was a pivotal year for UPS Supply Chain Solutions. The first-place ranking is a testament to their hard work and world-class solutions," said Felecia Stratton, editor of Inbound Logistics. "It's obvious that customers are extremely happy with UPS Supply Chain Solutions's services and the industry is taking notice."
The survey's participants, part of Inbound Logistics' readership of more than 200,000 logistics professionals, included senior managers as well as logistics, transportation, supply chain and purchasing professionals in businesses that currently use third-party logistics services.
"For nearly a decade, we've worked to grow and enhance our capabilities by making strategic acquisitions and continuing to develop solutions that respond to our customers' real-world needs," said Bob Stoffel, president of UPS Supply Chain Solutions. "This award is an honor and we believe it is a signal of our commitment to synchronizing critical business processes to optimize our customers' supply chains."
Inbound Logistics cited UPS Supply Chain Solutions clients including Honeywell, Lucent, National Semiconductor, Nikon, Seagate, SGI and Welch Allyn.
The magazine published a quote from Arnold Kamen, Nikon's vice president of operations and customer service. "Outsourcing a distribution system for an entire product line is certainly a rare and innovative step in the consumer electronics industry. We realized that by combining UPS services, we would have the ability to greatly shorten our supply chain. It allows Nikon, Inc. to provide faster service to a market segment that deals in high-volume consumer products."
