Former union pension officials indicted

Two trustees of Chicago-based union pension funds took kickbacks totaling almost $ 1 million from a brokerage company that got union business, federal authorities charged. William V. Close, 67, a former trustee for the pension funds of TEAMSTERS Local 710 and Automobile Mechanics Local 701, also accused of money laundering in a federal indictment announced this week. Another trustee, Robert J. Baker, also was involved but died in 1997. Christopher P. Roach, 34, of Detroit and Richard S. Triangle, 56, of Sarasota, Fla., were charged with racketeering for their alleged roles.
