Rank and File Power Campaign
P.O. Box 15877
Washington, D.C. 20003
Traffic World, voice of the trucking industry, is saying out loud what we all know in our hearts: management is enjoying a "love fest with Hoffa." ("In Love with Hoffa" Traffic World, May 1, 2000). Teamster members can't afford to have management's sweetheart running our union. Fortunately, next year's election will give us the opportunity to cut short Hoffa's honeymoon.
We've got everything we need to be successful. Unlike in 1998, we have the time needed to mount a serious campaign. We have the candidate. Tom Leedham is a proven fighter and standard bearer for rank and file power. He is a tireless campaigner, and our union's bestknown reform leader.
But to run a serious campaign we need to raise serious money, and we need to start doing it now. Hiring good staff is critical. But in order to secure staff we need to demonstrate that we will have a constant flow of income.
And it is essential that we take full advantage of the accreditation petition drive and be prepared for the delegate races. The petition drive begins in June. Delegate elections start this summer and fall and move into high gear in early 2001.
The punch line is simple: We need money now and we need commitments for the future. Last time we raised $250,000 in short order and used it well for the sixmonth effort. This campaign will last much longer. We will need to raise a larger amount and sustain our fundraising efforts over a longer period of time. This is why your donation at this time, and your pledge for continued support, are so important.
Under the election rules the donation limit has been raised to $2,000 per person. Many key supporters of Hoffa will max out on their donations. We need to set our goals high. I ask that you consider pledging at least $1,000, with a portion donated now. Nomembers and retirees may donate to the Leedham Campaign Legal and Accounting Fund. Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
SecretaryTreasurer
